19th  February Reflection

Where are you at?

I have completed my brainstorming and planning out all the information I need to gather. I am just about to begin researching, I am planning to write a proposal to Kane Tankard to use one of his Sugar cane blank. I feel very confident at this point of time and feel as though I am on track with my work

How do you feel about your topic?

I am very excited to begin researching and planning the design of my surfboard. Throughout the holidays I have been planning my topic because I couldn’t wait to start it. I have always been really passionate about my topic because it is something that runs in my family as we have family surfboard business’s .My dad begun creating surfboards at 13 years old and he now has one of the most successful surfboard  businesses  in Melbourne.

Who can help?

I am feeling confident in knowing what I’m doing as I have a lifelong knowledge of surfboards. I am pretty confident in researching information, however a challenge I might face towards the end of the topic is how I’m going to present the final presentation.

What is the plan for the 2 weeks? In and out of class?

My goals are to have sent my proposal to Kane Tankard , begin finding Eco materials and keep researching. If I have completed that and I’m on track I begin to plan the design for my board.

Reflection 15th of April

 

Are you on track?

Yes, I believe I have been very good at managing my time through this assignment, I am very good at managing my time and really enjoy these kinds of assignments. I have planned out what I have needed to complete each week to make sure that I am on track and complete my final product by the due date. As long as I continue on a schedule I should be able to  complete the assignment by the due date.

 

Do you need help?

No, I believe with my particular topic don’t need others on the specific stage I am in. I completed my research and now up to the designing and shaping stage which only I have the resources to do. As well as the designing is mostly sketching and drawing.

What do you need us to do?

One area of the presentation I could use some help is creating a webpage, therefor I would someone who is good with technology. I need to plan my pages, home screen and gather information and photos to put in the website. As well as planning my oral presentation, I have a lot of points I would put into my oral presentation and therefor need to plan strategically.

Any hiccups or hurdles?

One is that I needed to interview surfboard shapers and glasses and now that we have to stay in isolation and not see anyone who is not vital. Also need to order certain things such as finds, leg ropes which are from overseas and due to the slow mailing process and shipping these materials may not arrive on time, and therefor I wont have a complete board to present. I also need to get certain materials such as fiberglass which I am still waiting on, and until that arrives I cant create the board.

How will u overcome there hurdles?

How I will overcome the interviewing people is to email it to them or record a phone call, I have a recording studio and therefor was going to record a podcast with my dad (the owner of Zak surfboards) and include quotes and the interview on their. However for the other hurdles I am still trying to find ways to overcome them, if the materials do not arrive, we will have to  substitute some materials for others.

Reflection 12th of May

A few days ago the last of the fiberglass we ordered arrived, today i went to the surfboard factory and i put the blank into a shaping machine i then then shaped the rest of it by hand.  A few days later i came back me and my dad begun glassing the board. The board was finished on the 23rd of may. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Reflection 24th of May:

I completed my Final website today and hoping to upload it. I have been reflecting on the IGNITE topic and I have really enjoyed it. Its given me a change to really look deeper into my passion for surfboard development and sustainability. I am really proud of myself for creating a surfboard in general but also a sustainable one. I was really looking forward to presenting my work and showing my surfboard in person at school. however due to COVID-19 lock down were unable to. 

If i could change anything i would of wanted to do the project for the whole year! I did found that i could of used me time better towards the end of the project and the finalizing however i am very happy with the amount of work i produced and i think that it benefits many people in informing them about the threats to the environment caused by surfboard industry.
